Meet the Bald family.  OK, they’re not really bald, they just haven’t been wigged yet.  Confused?  I’ll back up a step or two..

Ok, this is an arrangement of precisely-measured clay parts that, when assembled, will become a family of five.  See Dad in the left column, followed by Mom, then Big Brother, Little Sister, and Brand New Baby Sister?  Sure you can.

Dad’s getting dressed up – first he puts on his tie, and then he puts on his head.  Just like you and me.

See?  I told you they weren’t really bald.  Soon the whole family will  be in the chair at the salon getting haircuts, but first, they’re going to hang out in my oven for an hour or so.  What can I say?  They dig the heat.

When this family is all primped, polished, and put-together, they will be nestled into a cozy box and sent off to live with people that look an awful lot like they do.  Only bigger.

I’ll be making fifteen more families like this before Christmas, and one of them could be yours, if you’d like.  Ordering begins on Monday at Noon, Eastern Time, but you can wander over to the shop and get more information now, if you’re curious.

Custom-made family portraits from 2003/4

It’s been six years since I made custom ornaments – all of the babies in these families are first-graders now!  (That’s my own family in the bottom right corner.)

Several of you have already expressed an interest in getting your family on my clay table this season… I thank you in advance for the opportunity to dress you up in miniature clothes, rosy your little cheeks, and polish your tiny shoes!  This is as close as I get to playing with dolls…
